Why I Write

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for taking the time to come and read what I have written. My hope and prayer is that you will be encouraged by what I write and that we all will grow in our knowledge and understanding of who God is and what He has to say! Before getting started, I wanted to give you my intentions and motivations for writing, as well as some of the topics you may find here.

There are many topics that I am looking forward to writing about, but something I have been passionate about lately is discovering what God says and thinks about women and what our roles should be. I began praying about this after I found out I was pregnant with a little girl because I really wanted to get a better grasp on what it means to be a Godly woman so I could teach it well. There seems to be a great need for a different perspective than what we hear from the culture and from some parts of the church. And that perspective should not be a new one, but rather, a Biblical one.

There are many who lead both women and men astray when it comes to the view of women. The culture has a lot to say about how we should act, how we should dress, and what our roles should be. Christian women are constantly bombarded with so many voices from the world, but these should not be the voices we listen to. Unfortunately, the church has adopted many of these views that undermine teachings of Scripture.

However, views on the other end of the spectrum have also infiltrated the church and are causing harm and confusion. Many extra-Biblical teachings have been added to the term “Biblical Womanhood” and have placed unnecessary expectations and burdens on Christian women. It can be very challenging to be focused on walking in Christ as you should with so many voices other than the Bible telling you what it means to be a Godly woman. I have talked with women my age and even older who have been hurt by others imposing their own views on them that are not commands from Scripture. I have experienced this in my own life which has propelled me to search for answers and clarity on what it means to be a woman of God. I have also been on the other side, asserting my own opinion instead of communicating what Scripture teaches, and have had to apologize to some women who I have hurt or confused.

A proper view of women is essential to the effectiveness of the church. Women make up half of the church and are a vital part of its mission. I am excited (and a little bit nervous) to dive into some of the “hot topic” women’s issues and touchy Bible verses that are somewhat difficult to understand. While I will write my own thoughts, my main objective is to point you first to Scripture, and then to other believers who have studied these topics much more than I have. I am not going to try and twist Scripture or explain it in a way that makes it more culturally appealing. Rather, my goal is to strip away false perspectives and teachings that are of human origin and see the true and beautiful meaning that strengthens the body of believers. In doing so, I hope that I can help both men and women to have a more Biblical and well-rounded view of Godly womanhood so that we can all be more effective in the roles God has ordained for us.

While I am very passionate about writing about women and our roles, some other topics I will be writing about are:

- Christianity as a worldview

- Verses commonly taken out of context

- How to disagree with fellow believers

- Marriage and family

- Guarding against dogma

- Examining our motivations

As you can see, there is a lot that has been on my mind lately and that I want to write about.

I am excited to get started and I hope to have edifying and productive conversations with those who are truly interested in learning and growing. I will always welcome healthy feedback because it will not only help me become a better writer, but also challenge me in my faith and walk with the Lord.

I want to give a quick shout out to my amazing friend, Taylor, who has been such a wonderful influence on me and who has really encouraged me to write. Besides my husband, she is my favorite person to talk to about theological things and I am always interested to hear what she has to say about different topics. Taylor has been one of my dearest friends since freshman year of college and I am so thankful for how God has used her in my life. She also has a blog and is an amazing writer. You can find her at taylornbwalding.com

Can’t wait to share what the Lord has been teaching me! I hope you will stick around and engage with me as we all seek to know our God more and more each day!
